Steven: lol
please hold while I review your choices
I would bump prototype because it's not actually technically an outkast song, in fact any song without the other shouldn't really count
its like calling Thriller a Jackson 5 album
me: hmm
kinda true, but production of the dual album counted in my mind...big boi had to have some input
Steven: not from what I read, it was kind of a competition thing with separate producers and all that...
I love Liberation, but there are so many other bangers that are acclaimed that could be there
me: true
Steven: hell Fresh and Clean?!
me: but the original thought (for me at least) was Outkast songs that do NOT get old to me. Songs that I could be tortured with and it would have no affect.
I can't listen to so fresh and so clean more than 5 times in any one day...something about it gets to me
Steven: ummm....and as far as I know, the official title for Internationals Players Anthem feat. UGK was Outkast feat. them....so that HAS to make the list
maybe top 2
me: hmmm
very true
Steven: and "the Whole world?!"
me: i wrote it off (they have some other stuff with ugk and ceelo that i wrote off)
whole world?
um...not top ten for me
Steven: Yeah but that was the frickin biggest song of the year?
me: true...but it wasn't most critically acclaimed songs or popular, just my top ten...as far as, if I wanted to give someone else a perception of outkast, those are the tracks i would give them
Steven: True I guess...
but out of all those I named, you have to admit Players Ball and International Player's anthem (sense a trend?) Probably should have made that list
especially Players anthem, for what possibly could have been the best verse Andre 3K ever spit
me: yeah, i was leaving lab and players ball came on my iphone...i was like, crap missed one...lol
nope
not greatest
he has better stuff than that
for me and fabrice...the cladestine sililoquy is the best spit
Steven: ooooh
forgot about that
me: i think that is wheelz of steel
i am listening to aquemini right now...sick
Steven: Ahead of it's time
Actually, they might have to be considered one of the top 3 groups ever in hip hop
me: I put them number 1...whose better?
Steven: sorry man, but Wu-Tang has to take it in my mind.
9 dudes who were so talented they had to battle amongst themselves to make it on a track
lyrics, slang, style (Wallabees?!)
me: true...but, longevity has to come into play
Steven: those dudes kicked off an era
The group is still active, although Outkast has probably sold more
But the thing about Wu Tang is, the top dudes in the group all experienced serious commercial success....
me: TRUE
Steven: Not to sure a Big Boi solo album would go 3x platinum
me: but some are dead and gone (sadly
See, everyone sleeps on atwon patton
Steven: besides ODB and the feuding amongst RZA, GZA, and Raekwon, who else is gone?
me: he has very nice skills, just sometimes overshadowed by Dre
gone...meaning they aren't making stuff together (method and red)
Sent at 12:11 PM on Thursday
Steven: Meth was on the last group album in '07....I think for the group stuff they still get together....
me: they seemed absent
Sent at 12:12 PM on Thursday
Steven: well, the group dynamic has definitely changed...its not killer bees like it used to be...lol
me: true
ok...because i am from ATL i still have to put outkast number #1
Steven: LOL fair enough
me: (that was double number for emphasis)
put wu tang is two...now, who is three?
Steven: from my Alabama unbiased mind (and family in NYC) Its 1 and 1A for me...
Man #3 is tough...Geto Boys, UGK, NWA?
TRU, Hot Boys
DTP
me: the only reason i can feel ok about the outkast pick is that they are more versatile...
um, maybe No Limit?
D12?
it is a quagmire at the 3 spot
Steven: Eh, D12 is further down the list because of how much they lose when Eminem isn't involved...
me: oh, triple 6 mafia...they got it
oscar winners
Steven: Bump all that Oscar nonsense...
me: lol
Steven: lets look at quality of music
that was the Academy being rebellious against itself
me: then they are 25
Steven: lol
for 3 personally, I have to stick UGK or Hot Boys in there...
UGK for longevity, quality of music, and respect from their peers
and Hot Boys for blowing the doors of New Orleans AGAIN after Master P had opened the doors...
for a 6 year period (98-2004) they were the hottest thing in rap
and the individual success of group members might be even more impressive then Wu-Tang
me: i give hot boys 3 good years..99-02
Steven: Has to be longer then that because they were releasing platinum albums when I was at Oakwood....
Mannie Fresh Production,
me: yeah, hot boys are more impressive...i just can't believe lil wayne took off like he did
Steven: Wayne, BG, Turk, and Juvenile
Wayne worked his way into it...I still don't like his newer stuff compared to old cash money though...
Sent at 12:19 PM on Thursday
me: I hate how big he is right now...never really liked him. I thought he was ok, but that was during the peak of my Outkast listening...at times I only played their stuff...
And Tupac
that was it pretty much
(aside from Calvin's reggae and music at clubs)
Steven: lol...Wayne is no fake though, he has consistently been the hardest working man in Hip hop, what was it, like 70-80 songs released last year alone? 2 or 3 mixtape albums, Carter 3, and Collabos...
For me, I always preferred him within the group dynamic...thats when I felt he was at his best
Sent at 12:22 PM on Thursday
me: yeah...he was the group...him and juvy in my mind
Steven: yup...
Sent at 12:24 PM on Thursday
me: I have been listening to Outkast this whole time and I missed some good stuff in my list...but I only had ten spots
Steven: Understandable....lol it should have been 10 albums..
Sent at 12:28 PM on Thursday
me: well, in that case...ATLiens wins with a little bit of a challenge by Aquemini
then the double album, the first album, then Idlewild, THEN stankonia
Steven: Pretty good order..I don't have much of a problem with that...
me: I'm gonna add that to both blogs...needs to be said
Steven: ok

WHOA removing Liberation!?!?! Steven get your life right! Fresh and Clean?? greatest of all times? I'm with what Theo said earlier on his other blog about how they need to be songs that are classic and you can listen over and over again. I don't think the Fresh and Clean is that. The classic song are less mainstream with most artist. Players Anthem?? Steven... what do you only listen to Outkast on your radio? No. lol top 2?? laughable.
And no one discussed my pics, I will have to see if it's discussed on the other blog.
WU-TANG?? Steven... Wu-tang. I have no words. Bleh. Outkast is genius. I agree with Theo. And platinum doesn't prove that it's good music. What are you working for the Academy or something? Hot Boys??? I'm getting sick.
Wayne can spit. Lyrics are fresh. I think the list should stop at #1 personally. Others need not apply as far as groups go. Aquemini to me embodies Outkast and that is #1 album for me I think.
Y'all are comedy.
Lexi, I can't ride the Wayne train with you...sorry. And you are somewhat right about the number thing, but I can't believe you put Aquemini over ATLiens!!! First, no interludes (a huge plus). Second, all tracks are classic...CLASSIC!!! Let me list the tracks...Wheelz of Steel, 13th Floor/Growing Old, Babylon, Mainstream, Jazzy Belle, ATLiens, Wailin' (in the zone like Keyser Soze, always the usual suspects!), E.T., Elevators, Two Dope Boys, and even Decatur Psalm. You CAN'T beat that lineup! Seriously...
And after all that...Aquemini is still a VERY close second...just can't beat ATLiens.
And I forgot to mention this little line (originally pointed out by Fabrice explaining the greatness of Andre 3000):
The Pope and his folks got us under a scope
But for unknown reasons cuz we don't sell dope
That you distribute, we don't contribute, to your clandestine
activity, my soliloquoy, may be hard for some to swallow
But so is cod liver oil
You went behind my back like Bluto when he cut up Olive Oyl
Two things I hate lies and thieves they make my blood boil
Boa constricted, on my soul that they call
Sigh, I'm sorry Theo, but that verse still isn't as nice as:
"So, I typed a text to a girl I used to see
Sayin that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be
And I apologize if this message gets you down
Then I CC'd every girl that I'd see see round town and
I hate to see y'all frown but I'd rather see her smiling
Wetness all around me, true, but I'm no island
Peninsula maybe, makes no sense I know, crazy
Give up all this pussy cat thats in my lap no lookin back
Spaceships dont come equipped with rearview mirrors
They dip as quick as they can
The atmosphere is now ripped
Im so like a Pip, Im glad its night
So the light from the sun would not burn me on my bum
When I shoot the moon high, jump the broom
Like a premie out the womb
My partner yellin "Too soon! Dont do it! Reconsider!
Read some litera - ture on the subject
You sure? F*** it
You know we got your back like chiroprac - tic
If that b**** do you dirty
we'll wipe her a** out as in detergent
Now hurry hurry, go on to the altar
I know you aint a pimp but pimp remember what I taught ya
Keep your heart 3 stacks, keep your heart
Aye, keep your heart 3 stacks, keep your heart
Man, these girls is smart, 3 stacks, these girls is smart
Play your part
Play your part"
And yes Alexis I slept on Outkast so much in the beginning that radio (remember that?) put me onto them! Lol...
And Lexi I am disappointed you are sleeping so hard on the Wu. They were so nice they had to battle each other to get on the mike?! They were putting out double disc albums with nothing but hardcore and grime from way back. Not to mention how much they effected style (First rappers with a clothing line, Clark Wallabees, etc.)
Hell:
I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies
and hypothesis can't define how I be droppin these
mockeries, lyrically perform armed robbery
Flee with the lottery, possibly they spotted me
Battle-scarred shogun, explosion when my pen hits
tremendous, ultra-violet shine blind forensics
I inspect you, through the future see millenium
Killa B's sold fifty gold sixty platinum
Shacklin the masses with drastic rap tactics
Graphic displays melt the steel like blacksmiths
Black Wu jackets queen B's ease the guns in
Rumble with patrolmen, tear gas laced the function
Heads by the score take flight incite a war
Chicks hit the floor, diehard fans demand more
Behold the bold soldier, control the globe slowly
Proceeds to blow swingin swords like Shinobi
Stomp grounds and pound footprints in solid rock
Wu got it locked, performin live on your hottest block
And that was the FIRST verse off of Triumph, it only got progressively better...
Better recent Andre lyrics...to me anyway.
So I went hard like Madusa staring at me
I told her let's go, let's blow this lame nigga factory
She said, What type of girl do you think I are
The kind that you meet in a bar
You think you can get whatever you want cause you some kinda star
No I'm a comet
I just want you woman
Hey, If I were you then It would be me that I go home with
3, the one and only
One thing you ain't considered
I heard you when you told your girl "ooo he can get it"
Admit it
You did it
Let's hop a cab and split it
I'm kiddin
We both going to where you livin
HA, I got you gigglin like I'm piglet
Oh that's the ticket
I hope you are more like anita baker than robin givens
No, I don't know that lady so let me quit it
I'm just style freein, freestylin with ya'll soundin you
That's just what I'm telling you
Should be in bed with you
Like I've been in jail for two
Years and then they let me loose
I do like the litera-ture line...nice.
This may not be the best, but it is very nice...
Outkas wit a K, yeah them niggaz are hard
Harder than a nigga trying to impress God
We'll pull your're whole deck, fuck pulling your card
And still take my guitar and take a walk in the park
Any play the sweetest melody the street ever heard
Now bitches sucking on my nouns and I'm eating their verbs
Get full, and niggaz, niggaz,
pop, pop, lock, lock to the, to the beat, beat
As if pitbulls went out of style, made a vow to myself
If it's for the wealth i'll stop, well put i like this
It's like me selling some dope because my girlfriend wants to shop
Wrong reason, whatever the season, hey winter, spring, summer or fall
I dont stall, slow drag wit your brain against the wall
Yeah, nigga naw, we learn to the side don't fall
All y'all fuck boys, tuck toys inside your pants
Just to pull it out, point it at the ground and make a nigga wanna dance
Now what that be for, you're on that reefer and on that Tupac
In front of them oooh wops, trying to show out, that's the hoe route
Talking loud talking bout that's gangsta shit
Or these?!?!?!
Twice upon a time there was a boy who died twice
and lived happily ever after but that's another chapter
live from home of the brave with dirty dollars
& beauty parlors & baby ballers & bowling ball Impalas
& street scholars that's majoring in culinary arts
You know how to work bread cheese & dough
from scratch but see the catch is you can get caught
Know what ya sellin' what ya bought so cut that big talk
Let's walk to the bridge now meet me halfway
now you may see some children dead off in the pathway
it's them poor babies walkin' slowly to the candy lady
It's lookin' bad need some hope
like the words maybe, if, or probably more than a hobby
when my turntables get wobbly they don't fall
I'm sorry y'all I often drift I'm talkin' gift
so when it comes you never look the horse inside it's grill
of course you know I feel like the bearer of bad news
Don't want to be it but it's needed so what have you
Now question is every nigga with dreads for the cause?
Is every nigga with golds for the fall? Naw
So don't get caught in appearance
it's Outkast Aquemini another Black experience Okay
or the lyrics from 'ATLiens'?? Softly as if I play piano in the dark?
Dammit!
I bet you never heard of a player with no game
Told the truth to get what I want but shot it with no shame
Take this music dead serious while others entertain
I see they making they paper so I guess I can't complain... or can I?
I feel they disrespecting the whole thang
Them hooks like selling dope to black folks
And I choke when the food they serve ain't tasting right
My stomach can't digest it even when I bless it
I'm confessing one mo' lesson from the South we in the house tonight
Now hootie who wants to oppose? Suppose
We rolls through Headland and Delowe
where me and my niggas surpassed the flow
And got down for ours like hind catchers
My mind catches flashbacks to the black past
while my close niggas laugh at
The Southern slang, figure ways and mojo chicken wangs
I grew up on booty shake we did not know no better thang
So go 'head and, diss it, while real hop-hippers listen
